Daniel A. Scola, Jr., Managing Partner, Hoffmann & Baron, LLP, was a recent guest on “Reverse Your Thinking,’ an ABC affiliated show dedicated to all aspects of financial health for its listenership.

In this episode, Scola discussed common misconceptions about intellectual property by breaking down what it truly encompasses. Rather than viewing intellectual property as a complex legal concept, he explained it as the protection of original ideas and creations, emphasizing the rights afforded to innovators. 

Scola spoke about the growing perception that artificial intelligence can replace human inventors in the intellectual property space. While acknowledging AI’s role as a valuable tool in the creative process, he emphasized that it cannot be recognized as an inventor under intellectual property law. Scola continued, “Although you can involve IP as a secondary source in your creation, AI cannot be an inventor. It can participate, but cannot be an inventor.”
